FILM CIRCUIT: CANADIAN CINEMA SHOWCASE

MUMBAI, INDIA
Thursday January 18 9:15pm AWAY FROM HER - hosted by Bollywood star Rahul Bose and presented by the Honourable Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario
Acclaimed Canadian actress Sarah Polley makes her powerful and affecting directorial debut with AWAY FROM HER, an adaptation of "The Bear Came over the Mountain," by Canadian author Alice Munro. Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent star as Fiona and Grant, a couple whose longtime love is challenged by the ravages of Alzheimer's disease. (National Centre for the Performing Arts, Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, Nariman Point, South Mumbai)

Friday January 19
7pm SAINT RALPH - actor Shauna MacDonald in attendance
Michael McGowan's SAINT RALPH is the unlikely story of Ralph Walker, a ninth grader who is on the verge of becoming an orphan: his father is dead and his mother is in a coma. Hoping to bring about a miracle that will bring her back to health, Ralph, with the help of the one mentor who believes in him, outruns everyone's expectations except his own in his deluded but fantastical quest to win the 1959 Boston Marathon. (INOX Multiplex, CR-2 Mall, Nariman Point, South Mumbai)

Saturday January 20
7pm LA NEUVAINE
Set in small-town Quebec, Bernard ?mond's LA NEUVAINE weaves together the stories of two strangers brought together by a chance meeting. When Fran?ois persuades Jeanne not to drown herself in the St. Lawrence River, her faith in herself and humanity slowly begins to return. Fran?ois, meanwhile, is performing a novena - a prayer offered over nine days - to aid his ailing grandmother. LA NEUVAINE is a profoundly moving film that touches upon questions of how faith, while affirming the power of human relationships. (INOX Multiplex, CR-2 Mall, Nariman Point, South Mumbai)

9pm A SIMPLE CURVE -- director Aubrey Nealon in attendance. (INOX Multiplex, CR-2 Mall, Nariman Point, South Mumbai) Rebelling against one's parents is generally considered a rite of passage for teenagers, but twenty-seven-year-old Caleb's laid-back, hippie parents have given him almost nothing to rebel against. When an old friend shows up in the valley with plans to develop a fishing lodge, Caleb sees a way to forge his own way in the world at last. Shot in the stunning Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia, Aubrey Nealon's A SIMPLE CURVE is a delightful and hilarious look at contemporary differences between the hippies of days past and their children. (INOX Multiplex, CR-2 Mall, Nariman Point, South Mumbai)
